Born Gay or Not? (PART 3: The NewHeart)
Though I left the gay life immediately, I still thought and felt like a gay man. It was not until 2001 that I recognized the Lord changing, not only my choice of behavior, but my very thoughts and feelings too. My prayer for that first decade ofLife was David’s declaration from Psalm 23 –‘The Lord… restores my soul’— became my daily experience. Holy Spirit continued to encourage me that overtime, as I sought to abandon myself to God’sLife living in me, He would reprogram my ‘thinker’, ‘chooser’, and ‘feeler’.
Freedom in Christ is a miracle of God’s grace and truth. One discovers, experiences, and secures Jesus’ LIFE in exchange of their own ‘self-life’. It is about overcoming the lies with God’s truth! It is about Jesus living in and through me, even –instead of me. It is about Jesus empowering me with His LIFE. It is about my experience of knowing Jesus as my Source for right living. It is about Holy Spirit teaching me how to apply the truths of God’s Word, infused within the very core of my NewHeart –‘I will give you a new heart’ —says the Sovereign Lord. (Ezekiel 36:25-28 NLT)
A NewHeart, a new LIFE, a new identity! 1 Corinthians 6:9-11 records one of the most powerful truths about identity that set this captive free, in practical ways. A Believer, once captured by the sin of homosexuality (really, any sin) is no longer identified by their sinful behavior(s). The Scripture identifies sinners by their sins; but the saved have their filth of sin washed away forever, by the blood of Jesus. And I got a new identity –IN CHRIST!
When I was sinner, lost and destined for hell, God identified me as a liar, thief, and homosexual. Then He says ‘such were some of you; but…’ (1 Corinthians 6:11). There was an exchange. The liar I was became washed clean. The thief I was, became sanctified and justified in the name of Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. The gay man and predator I was, became forever forgiven and flooded with God’s Life!
I got saved!
I got a new ID!
I got Xchanged!
