Born Gay or Not? (PART 5: What an Xchange!)

A Changed Belief
These bodies of flesh and blood –our many parts, inside and out—can only do one thing.  YIELD! (Romans 6:13).  We can yield to the human cravings, screaming for attention; or we can yield to God’s Life within.  So, as I know God’s truth about me –I’m not gay (2 Corinthians 6:9-11) — I can choose to believe God.  His Word teaches, Jesus lives in and through me, expressing His Life!  And Jesus is not gay.  As I choose to believe that truth, my body has to yield to that truth and shut up.  The flesh can only torment, in places we choose not to yield to truth –in places we continue to repress the truth.  When we choose to believe lies, we get overrun by sins. The only remnant of the gay life remaining within me is the lie that I’m not good enough.  I’m not strong enough.  I feel that bigger is better.   And the lies scream— I’m not… I’m not… I’m not…

But the secret is Jesus lives His righteous Life in and through me (Colossians 1:27).  It’s about how BIG Jesus is!  How deep does God’s love dive me into Jesus’ Life?   How wide does Jesus’ Life embrace me in His love? How far does His love reach into my heart?  How high does Divine love carry me?  What is the measure of God?  What is the measure of a man of me?

As I KNOW – RECKON – YIELD to God’s Truth, I am empowered to WALK in and from His Truth!

An Xchange of belief transforms behavior.  Any significant and lasting change must be made with an Xchanged identity!

The Remedial Whispers of Holy Spirit
Holy Spirit whispers within my spirit –within the deepest fathoms of my being—that IN CHRIST I am forgiven… I am alive with God’s Life… I am changed… I am righteous… I am awesome and wonderfully made by the Most High God, who fashioned me within my mother’s womb, called me to be His, and is developing me into all He wants me to be… to do all He intends me to do… I am –and you are— God’s masterpiece! (Galatians 2:8-10).

Can’t hear God’s voice?  Jesus states, ‘My sheep hear My voice’! (John 10:27, ESV).  Since we can take Jesus at His word, all the saved hear Jesus speaking within. The problem is – sorting out who, what, when, where, and how?
Misdirection!  Muddied Waters!
Where to go? What to do!
God’s intentions?

When will my life ever have meaning?
What happened to me?
Who am I?

How do I answer all these endless questions?

Learning to listen to Holy Spirit’s whispers, instead of those gnawing screams of the flesh can be most perplexing.  The Spirit and our flesh are always at war! (Galatians 5:17).  The flesh thrives in muddying the waters. Obscurity is its game, as its goal is to convince us that it is ‘me, myself, and I’.  How can we learn to distinguish the tidal wave of voices?

Spend time in God’s Word
Holy Spirit never contradicts the Scriptures!  The more in tune I became to God’s Word, the more I recognized His voice.  Though He speaks in many ways, He primarily speaks through the Bible.  His whispers can be soft and gentle, like a cool summer breeze or thunderous, as a stormy gale.  Regardless of how the wind blows, the more familiar we are with God’s Word, the more in step we will be with Holy Spirit in our journey.  Walking with Jesus is all about listening to Holy Spirit’s promptings.

Paul refers to it as the renewing of the mind.  I like to call it Holy Spirit reprograming.
So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you:
Take your everyday, ordinary life
—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—
and place it before God as an offering.

Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him.
Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.
Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out.
Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it.
Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity,
God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
(Romans 12:1-2, the Message Bible)

An Old Testament prophet said – seek God and live!  If you dive into God’s Word, you will find yourself in conversations with Jesus –God’s Life within you!  As you embrace His Life, you will live in freedom and peace –no matter how harsh and difficult the circumstances might be.  When I spend time with God in His Word, He births within my heart belonging, worth, and competence –encouragement, direction, instruction, and joyful song—healing of disordered thoughts and damaged emotions, freedom and peace…  And my sovereign Lord and saving Life, keeps diving me deeper and deeper and deeper, into Him.

Liar to truth-teller, thief to a man of integrity, and sexually immoral to a life of purity
A life transformed faithful and pure!

Empty and alone, afraid and unworthy, insignificant and incompetent and insecure… —all exchanged for:

·        Father God’s acceptance -
now I belong (Ephesians 1:6; 1 John 4:4, 1 Peter 2:9-10)
·    Jesus' Life & worth -
the greatest treasure (Matthew 13:44-45; Colossians 1:27; 3:3-4; 2  Peter 1:4; 1 John 5:20)
·    Holy Spirit's competence -
significant and secure (Romans 5:5; Ephesians 1:17-18; 1 Peter 1:2)

Jesus’ Life living in and through me!  …and when I can’t carry on, He lives for me!

I... am... writing to exiles scattered to the four winds.
Not one is missing, not one forgotten.
God the Father has his eye on each of you,
and has determined by the work of the Spirit
to keep you obedient through the sacrifice of Jesus.
May everything good from God be yours!
(1 Peter 1:2, the Message Bible)
